I am a sucker for adaptations. If I find a trailer that intrigues me then learn that the movie is based on a book I'll go out grab the book and read it. Once I'm done I'm bubbly with excitement to see the film. So, my journey through Beautiful Creatures was just that. I read the book in two days and loved it. I couldn't wait to see the movie, but when it came out I was too busy packing to move to go out and see it. Then once settled and ready I found that it hadn't done well and was pulled from theatres. So I've been waiting since March and finally, last night I laid across my bed and watched it.
IT SUCKS!
Oh the disappointment that slowly seeped into my heart as I watch this side show of a movie. It really was something I can only shake my head at. Hoping upon hope that it would get better...I only found it getting worse.
I'm so very happy I didn't spend theatre money on this crap fest. Now, because I enjoy adaptations I know that things get changed (I'm not one of those, it's not like the book people. I generally understand and enjoy subtle changes that enhance a movie). Some characters are dropped, some things that have no direct effect on the plot get erased. I also know that sometimes with a book series screenwriters will down play "small" characters because they don't know how important they will be later on in the story (see Neville Longbottom in the HP movies/books). But this movie took that all to a new level. The true title should I have "Beautiful Creatures, a film loosely based on the book of the same name". For a film based on a book they took very little of the book and put it in the film. In fact it left out so much that I don't even know how anyone could call it an adaptation.
In this post Twilight teen book to movie world we have been spoiled. Although Twilight was terrible it was true to the book. The Hunger Games, which was monumentally better, was also very true to the book. This movie couldn't even get the smallest detail like "Uncle Abner's" favorite food correct. It was like the writer (who also directed this thing) changed things just because he felt like changing them, fandom be damned.
I won't go through every change (because that would take FOREVER) and some I can agree with, like taking out the dog, Boo Radley. Others especially those of great significance, like Kelting (which is a telepathic way the 2 main characters speak to each other), are just baffling to me. And merging two very different, yet very important characters (Amma and Aunt Marion) was the beginning of the end. This is just one part of this franchise's Neville Longbottom problem...because these two characters have very different roles to play, but they have to play them separately they cannot be played by the same person...it's too much and by the end of it we'd all be wondering if she's an immortal. Also, by merging them they all but got rid of the main characters mother who, even though she died about 6 months before the start, plays a great role in her son's life and this story. and the fact that she's just recently died and left her son pretty broken hearted isn't addresses either. Oh, back to the Neville problem...you can't say that screenwriter didn't know what would happen, because during the filming the final book in the series was being published and the series writers were on set and could tell him what and why certain things needed to stay the same.
This film also single handedly turned 3 Oscar nominated actors into quite possibly the worse actors ever on the planet earth. I was really excited about Jeremy Irons being cast and Uncle Macon, but it turned out to be completely wrong.
But the worst thing I can say about this movie is that it's worst than Twilight. Yes, as bad as Twilight was overall (if you look at the source material BC is a much better book than Twilight to start with) this movie is quite literally worse. From the writing to the acting to the special effects (which are horrid) to the overall feel it was all just BAD!
And to think, they're going to make 3 more movies...hopefully, they find a better director and allow the two ladies who wrote the books to write the screen plays.
I also wanted to say this, I really don't like the fact that Ethan (the POV character) calls Lena (his girlfriend) a Bitch. We already have a problem with how men treat women and to have a movie aimed at teenagers show that type of interaction (whether it was warranted and whether he apologized or not) it was completely unnecessary. It just reinforces what certain parts of society (and yes the Twilight franchise was based on) male dominance and control over women. These aren't the types of things we should be showing the next generation.
Don't see this movie...don't spend your time or money on it. Not worth it at all!
Until Next Time!

New Moon Movie Review
So, as a fan of books, movies and some books turned into movies...I gladly shelled out money to watch this book turned movie. Now, I did the same last year...I shouldn't have, but like all things I had to learn the hard way. Anyone who says that the first installment of this saga (Twilight) needs to seek professional help!
The book was so compelling and well written that I could only hope the movie (Twilight) would be the same, but I was sorely disappointed with it. I'm so used to movie makers taking books like LotR and Harry Potters (and even 300 and Watchmen) and actually turning them into must watch movies, that I forgot the director couldn't direct! If it wasn't for the book Twilight would have been sunk in the water.
So, knowing my disappointment with the first I still stepped up to the second, hopeful that a new director and more money would make a better movie. And I was right....
It's no classic, but it is a good popcorn fest...it's full of moments from the book that I hoped I'd experience in the movie. I like the cinematography, the colors used and captured, I even liked the wolves. But I was most impressed with Michael Sheen as Aro!
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart! I can't seem to get passed the fact that in real life he looks like he may smell, he's completely opposition of Edward (and I know he's an actor and is playing a role) but all I see is stink rising off his body. I don't really care for him as Edward...the only time I feel like he was Edward like was in the first film, when he is first introduced, after that it's all been a let down. Kristen Stewart...I've seen her in a couple non-Twilight related movies in which I think she did a good job, but in this movie it was more looking torn...biting her lips and overall blankness.
Alice (played by Ashley Greene) is my favorite character and Ms. Greene does a great job as her...although there is a scene where she jumps a railing that was completely unnecessary.
The visual effects were better! You cold see the difference between the eye colors of the different Vampires, which was very very slight last movie. I enjoyed watching the wolves more than I thought I would. And on the Wolves...I really like the makeup that was done on Emily (Sam's fiance), it was always hard for me to image her look, but they nailed it!
Other than Robert and Kristen the only thing I didn't like was the score...it was way tooo cheesey...and I love cheese, but this was like Velveta on top of Velveta!
Michael Sheen as Aro....wow! Perfection! There's nothing else to say, but that man is a real actor...true! He can take a role and own it...I was so glad he was chosen for this role and he didn't disappoint one bit!
So overall I would recommend this movie...if only for those who heard something of the books...if you haven't you could wait until it's on DVD would you may lose something in the effects! Enjoy

So Many Things I Want to Say!!!
I've been thinking about several different topics I want to write about. Some very personal, some social and some just celebrity gossip nonsense. I decided to list them below...and I will post a topic in detail on each one, but I just don't have the time at this moment. Over the next week, I will complete the thought(s) I have on each topic.
1. Why aren't I married yet?
2. Did Adam Lambert go too far?
3. New Moon movie review.
4. Doesn't matter if your fat or skinny as long as your striving to be your best.
5. Holding on to what doesn't matter.
6. Thanksgiving!
7. Happiness is a choice!
Seven days, seven topics...I should get started. See ya later! And enjoy!

Star Trek
Yesterday was Mother's Day in two countries (Mexico and the U.S.), so my family celebrated by taking my mom to see Star Trek in IMAX! And because this is one of the movies on my list I will review it for you here...
First and foremost, this review is based on IMAX...so I suggest that you see it in IMAX, but it will only be there for 2 weeks (at least that's what the guy said as he was introducing it). So go get your tickets now (well read this first).
If you know nothing about Star Trek don't worry, J.J. Abrams and the writers did a great job of giving the fans and non-fans alike a great film to watch. If you pay attention you shouldn't get confused.
I loved the casting, they all make appearances and no one disappoints and (for those who know the show) they all say there catch phrase's...you have to wait, but they're in there. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto do excellent jobs as Kurt and Spock! I for one started to forget about Mr. Nimoy and started to fully realize Quinto as the love able Vulcan. Checov, Sulu, Bones, Uhura and Scotty all play their parts and make this ride even more fun.
If you like action there's plenty of it, lots of fist fights (including one between Kurt and Spock) and lots lasers! The whole movie center's around Eric Bana's Nero seeking revenge...and although his ship was impressive Bana didn't do anything for me or the movie...in fact, to tell the truth, the whole movie was really about the crew. The story was good, it made sense with the Canon and was wrapped up in the end.
Besides Bana's brooding there's nothing bad to say about this movie. So I encourage you all to go see it (in IMAX) as soon as you can.
Live long and....

Movies Reviews
Hello All,
A few months back I sat down and charted my movie going schedule for the year. Well I've seen some of these films (5 to be exact) and I wanted to give my reviews of them. So here we go....
UnderWorld 3: Rise of the Lycans
I actually liked this movie better than I thought I would. If you know anything about the Underworld franchise then you know it's a vampire/werewolf movie. This film gives the back story of how the Lycans (Werewolves) came to be and how they went from salves to enemies all because some were scared of the unknown. All in all I think this a movie that boys would like, and if you've already invested yourself in the franchise, in this adds to the story.
Bride Wars
I've loved Kate Hudson since Almost Famous and Anne Hathaway since Princess Dairies and I love anything having to do with weddings, so put those two in a wedding movie and you've got me! It didn't disappoint, but this is NOT a guy movies, unless he's gay! This is strictly a girlfriend flick, something to go see (or watch on DVD) with your friend, before or after a nice dinner and glass of wine. It's about friends, who despite wanting to hate each other they realize that they can't really be apart. But it's fun to watch them mess each other up while they slowly figure things out. It's kind of predictable, but who cares, it's a good funny, crying girly movie!
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Speaking of girly movies....here you go. NO BOYS ALLOWED! Not cause we don't want you, but because we don't think you'd understand. This is a cute little movie about well shopping and a girl trying to find her real self, even though she doesn't know that's what she's really looking for. In the end, like all fairy tales, she gets the job, the boy, her friend back, and lives happily ever after. I don't know if these things really happen, but we can all hope!
Madea Goes To Jail
Tyler Perry is a fool! But I'm glad he's given us Madea and Uncle Joe. It's sad at times and you may cry, but with all of his movies Tyler Perry underlines this laugh out loud funny movies with warmth and a message and integrity, love and friendship. Sometimes, we need to laugh, but that doesn't have to be the whole story and it's not with this movie. There are several story lines that inter-connect, but it's worth just sitting back and letting the story take you on a journey.
Knowing
I liked it, I think. This is a good movie. I have to stay that the writer got me! I thought I figured it all out halfway through the movie only to be thwarted in the end. I'm not mad about that, I'm just a little underwhelmed with the all too used cliche used to end the movie. It's worked, but I felt like saying, "NOT AGAIN", in the middle of the crowded theater. Nic Cage and Rose Byrne were good, but the kids are the real story. The little girl, so creepy in the beginning is great and the little boy was perfect. I'd say go see it a let me know what you thin about it. It was a good ride and I may just buy the DVD, not many get me and I can appreciate that this one did!
So that's all I have to say, hopefully I'll get out to see Fast and Furious soon. Until Next Time!!!

Movie Review (Christmas Edition)
Everyone has a favorite Christmas movie, some are long standing family traditions, other's not so much. Over the years Christmas movies have gone from sappy to funny to lovey and goofy. Cartoons, dramas or romance everyone has an opinion on Christmas movies.
So, I decided for this years final movie review I would review my favorite Christmas movies.
I'll tell you right off that I haven't seen most of the Christmas classics, so It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and the original A Christmas Carol are not on this list, neither is the ballet version of the Nutcracker. I've never had the patience to watch these movies so I've never forced myself to sit through them. I know someone going to try to convince me to watch at least one, but I have no plans to, so don't try. My movies are more modern!
First, Love Actually, I have to say this is the first Christmas movie I've ever insisted on watching only around Christmas for the sake of it being a Christmas movie. I love this film, it's sweet, funny and heartbreaking but it never gets old. The film follows several different story lines that all intersect at some point, even when you try to figure out how you get from the prime minister to porn stand ins, it happens. It all works and leaves you with a smile and quite possibly the funniest annoying song in your head.
Second, The Family Stone, there are only two Sarah Jessica Parker movies I like, this is one (the other is Girls Just Wanna Have Fun). It's about a family and what happens when a brother brings his new uptight girlfriend into his very laid back family's lives. Comedy ensues and soon you're laughing and by the end crying. Great movie (I think I reviewed it previously).
Lastly, Four Christmases, I've got two words for ya...Vince Vaughn, you know I love him. He teams up with Reese Witherspoon and an all-star cast and you can't go wrong. It's full of awkwardness, funny dialogue and Vince getting beat up. It's fun all around...a good movie to watch when your snuggled up in bed or wrapping gifts.
At the heart of all these movies are good stories with a message. I enjoy them all and hope that they will bring you all a little joy too.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Movie Reviews...
It's been a while since I've reviewed a movie and rightfully so....
First, I have to give you the background on this post. I started to write this last week about 45 mins after seeing Wanted. I started off by going on and on about seeing Indiana Jones and how disappointed I was and all this hogwash about rewatching the originals and being bored with those too. Then I started in on Wanted...I was writing this all on my phone and because I was walking down a hill and holding my phone awkwardly, I ended up turning it off and unfortunately lost the whole thing...so this is a new version.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
All I have to say is that I want my 8 bucks back!
Wanted.
Kicks butt. You all know that I love Angelina Jolie and I'm falling in love with James McAvoy! This is the perfect film for him to really kick start his career in the US. It's fast paced, smart and well...mind blowing. I wasn't bored (like during Indy) and I appreciated all of the special effects even though I knew every bit of it was impossible. I didn't care that they were bending bullets and flipping cars and all that because I was strapped in for the ride and enjoying it all.
Some may not get it cause it's too much this and too much that and very unbelievable, but a good movie is supposed to take you out of your world and put you squarely in someone else's. Sometimes when I watch a movie on the big screen my own thoughts and life sneak in a pull me away from the story, but that did not happen at all during this movie. And that for me is outstanding.
So if you haven't gone to it Wanted yet, then go ahead and do it...you won't regret it!

Movie Reviews
Awhile back I started reviewing movies I've seen and think other people should see...well, its that time again and although both these movies came out in 2007 and were nominated for awards I am going to give them my seal of approval.
Juno
Okay I'm biased, I must say because Jennifer Garner is my favorite actress and she's in the movie (that's really the only reason I saw it). I am glad that I saw this film, its quirky, funny, poignant and it challenges your thought process. In the end its a great film. I do have to admit that there were times when I wanted to tell Juno to shut up or wake up, but I'm glad I didn't, I tend to over think movies and I did this one, once it was all wrapped up, said and done I was impressed with the story, cast and wit.
If you haven't seen Juno yet, go see it I think you'll enjoy it.
Atonement
The next film is Atonement, another biased choice, I love Keira Knightley, this movie made me angry, one of the main characters though, not the actual movie.
Atonement is a beautiful movie, the colors the costumer and director chose for both clothes and scenery are magnificent, apart from the story you can just watch the movie to enjoy the pictures...
But the story is epic and tragic...it's a love story gone wrong, but not because of the lovers, because of a jealous lie...the book and film try to make it seem like the misunderstandings of a young girl, who didn't know any better, but I call B.S. on that. She's a spoiled little liar!
Keira Knightley and James McAvoy are great together and the pain they show on their faces when apart is heartbreaking. I do have to say that this can be viewed as a "girls" movie, but I think if you open you mind, heart and eye to the story anyone and everyone can see apart of themselves in the three main characters...even Briony.
So those are my reviews, if you haven't seen either of these movies you should, they are wonderful.

The Kingdom
This is a review and a thought in one, so I hope you enjoy it.
The Kingdom is a movie staring Jamie Fox, Jennifer Garner, Chris Cooper and Jason Bateman. I went watch this movie on Friday, I've been waiting a year to see it. Jennifer Garner is my favorite actress and when she got pregnant I didn't know if she would take time off or not, but she began filming this movie shortly after she gave birth. So, like I said I've been waiting to see this since it was announced.
I went to see it on opening day and was very excited not only to see Jennifer G kick butt but also because the trailers looked awesome. I don't know what I thought it was going to be, maybe I thought Muslims blow up Americans and we go in and kick butt. But I left the movie feeling genuinely sad. I can't tell you what happened but in the state of the world we are currently living in the dramatic elements and fights are great but it's really about the last few lines of the script that hit you in the face.
I've been thinking very deeply about this war, the first I have experience and fully understood as an adult, and I HATE it! I've thought about the people whose land we've invaded and those who've died and i wonder what makes us so much better. And in the end of this movie you realize that we think the same things, but justify them differently.
We need to think about what we do, we need to step into other peoples shoes. Christians, instead of commending Muslims reach out and learn about them, they aren't all terrorists and neither are we. Did you know that in the middle east, we, the American (Christians) are the terrorists. Chew on that for a while and see what comes out.
I think this is an excellent movie...it drags a little but in the end if you don't come out of it with new things and view to think about, then you completely missed the point.

I think this is an excellent movie...it drags a little but in the end if you don't come out of it with new things and view to think about, then you completely missed the point.

it's been sooooo long...

but I'm back and I have a lot to say, but I'll put it all in different posts so that you don't have to read this forever....so let's start off with my new favorite love....
His Name is Shia LaBeouf
ain't he cute....anyway...he leads me to my second ever movie review...
TRANSFORMERS!!!
Now, a year ago I was not at all interested in seeing this pic....I just thought another cartoon turns into a movie...lame! But I was quite surprised at the result of Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and Shia's work. The movie was great and although I remember the cartoon and toys, I don't remember the story line (even though I apparently made my mom watch every episode with me), so the movie story is foreign to me and maybe you.
I love Shia, I think that he's cute and funny (he called his dog a crackhead) and I loved the parents (especially the "family talk" scene, which is painful and HIGHlarious)!
The chick, Megan Fox, is really pretty and I'm sorry but Josh Dummel is hot too. With Anthony Anderson, Bernie Mac, Tyrese Gibson and Jon Voight rounding out the cast it was just a great piece of summer blockbuster fun. And that's only the humans....
Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumble Bee...they and the rest of the transformers where so great and real on screen that it hurt me to watch them fight each other. But the Autobots won and really that's all that counts....but I can't help thinking there's going to be a sequel! I mean that end was too light for me. I'm sure the message will get out not only to other autobots, but decepticons too.
Anyway, if you want a good time at the movies and haven't seen it yet...Transformers is the ticket. Enjoy!

Let the Movie Season Begin...
I guess you can call this summer's movie season "the summer of the sequels", there are at least five movie sequels coming out this summer and not just sequels, we're talking thirds, fourths and fifths (there's even a ninth, but they're not advertising it as that). So I'm excited about this summer season, because I want to see most of these movies...I'm soooo excited about a few, that I'm completely beside myself.
For me, the summer movie season kicked off with DISTRUBIA, I saw a trailer for it and thought it looked cool and I wasn't disappointed. Next up is Hot Fuzz, which I haven't seen yet but WILL!!! And well the rest....I'll just leave a list below, hopefully you'll see them two and we'll have something to talk about!
Spiderman 3
Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
The Bourne Ultimatum
28 Weeks Later
Ocean's 13
Resident Evil: Extinction
Halloween
And these are some movies that seem interesting, but aren't sequels
Transformers
1408
The Kingdom
Stardust
So enjoy your summer at the movies and until my first review....the Balcony is closed.

Inspired by "A New World"
She mourns him at the feet of the river and covers herself in the warm ash of an old fire.
I'm sad for her, I'm sad for her life and the love she lost because of a lie. The light of the sun shines on her but all she sees is the darkness of death that chills her skin and and breaks her heart.
Her tears stream down her face and she does not care enough to wipe them away.
You can look into her eyes and see that she will never be the same.
Years have passed, moments have lingered and still her eyes show her loss.
She is married now, but her love for him who was lost is all the fills her heart.
But she now has hope...hope in her child, hope in the life she has helped to create, the son that will fill her heart with the love she lost so long ago.
She plays with him, chases him, feeds him...reads to him.
Teaches him the world through her eyes.
But still in her heart she still mourns at the feet of the river longing for the love she's lost.

Movie Review
mo
Every so often you may see a movie review pop up on this blog. I promise to only do it with movies that I really enjoy and think that you may really enjoy...so I won't tell you guys to run out and rent (or buy) the newest American Pie movie...trust me I won't be watching it. So anyway, here's my first review....
The Family Stone
This is a great family film...well it's a film about a family. I discovered this movie in the early summer, but it's centered around Christmas. The eldest son of the Stone Family comes home for Christmas and brings his uptight overachieving girlfriend to meet his family. The family is an ecklitic mix of sisters and brothers and two loving parents. Basically the girlfriend doesn't fit in this laidback household and finds herself on the outs at every turn. It's fun and funning and I think that you would enjoy it.
I enjoy this move, not really for the main story, but for the underlying one...there's a story focused purely on the family and how each child deals with it is great and sad. Diane Keaton is FANTASTIC, Craig T. Nelson, Dermott Mulroney and Luke Wilson are great...Sarah Jessica Parker is so good, you might just think that she's really uptight. Watch for little things and just the way this family interacts and really loves each other and each others quirks. I give The Family Stone a round of applause.
Enjoy!!!
